just curious as to what an hourly rate should be for someone who has 2 years experience with revit?

I would say it depends on location. If your out in the middle of no where then less than $10 would be suiteable. I have about 3 years experience and I am making around $13 living in Denver, Colorado.

my god, are salaries in the states that low. in ireland staff salary would be on a starting point of €20 per hour, senior staff around €30. revit is little used over though, most of our work is autodesk

i am finishing up my ba in architecture. i still need 4th and 5th year to go. so am i still underpaid? should i ask for a raise or look elsewhere?

I would think that only halfway through school, $14 an hour is pretty good. I think out summer intern is making less than that after 5 years of school, but I'm not completely sure...

the real issue is not what you can do with with revit (or any other software, 3D or otherwise) or even how much experience you have with that software, compensation is (or should be) justified on how you use your judgement to make decisions (architecturally). Just modeling is one part of the profession. How to best describe how things WILL get built (be it, drafting, sketching, spec writing, corespondence) and understanding how things are constructed in the field will always be of more value than what a justifiable hourly rate to model things up will be.

ok thank for everyone's responses. i know where i stand now. for the record i have worked in different firms for almost 10 years now. i only have 2 years experience with revit. i know a little more than your average intern and alot more than a draftsman. as far as school goes i only have 4th year studio and then my final year. i have taken all the classes i need to take other than the studio. anyway thanks for the responses it was very helpful.

I think it varied from firm to firm, and the person who wrote about the other skills you bring to job hit it on the head. I am making 15 without any rpevious revit experience, also in Denver.

Well like I said I am making $13/hr and I have about 4 years experience in Revit, but I am a third year Architectural Engineering student. After I get my BA I expect to move up the pay scale rapidly. My office also gives me many bonuses, and is a great firm and $13/hr isnt to bad for living in Denver. I'd like more but honestly who could say they dont.

Rate is based on where you are working (cost of living issues) and types of projects you have worked on. I have 3 yrs experience with Revit and 7 years of engineering/architectural drafting and design with no schooling. I'm making almost $30/hr, but my experience has been multi million dollar projects from concept through construction documents and dealing with subs on the project. What else, other than modelling, do you bring to the table. That's where you need to look to see if you are being underpaid or not.
SimonT I've been trying to find a company in Ireland that would help me get my work Visa. Is your company looking to hire?

I'm a drafter with no degree and 1 year revit experience and my rate is $22 per hr. in Atlanta doing residential for a builder. I make upwards of $35 on contract jobs as well. You guys just need to sell yourselves more. Remember, you get what you settle for or negotiate.

I love working by myself.. sometimes I get $450-$600 in one hour..
just for selling one of my plans

Well as to myself I am making $13 an hour. I might be a special circumstance though because I am just recently out of high school and into my first semester at the local community college. I have 2 years of Revit experience as well as 1 year of AutoCAD, 1 year of ADT, 1 year of Inventor Professional 10, and 1 year of MasterCAM. I've been working for a commercial architectural design firm for almost the 3 months now so yea...my life in a nutshell
