Hi, nice to meet you all..
Just want to know is there any easier way in Rivet to create complex forms of tensile membrane structures? I knew revolve can create umbrella type of membrane structures, any ideas on twisted membrane structures?

Currently the closest method for creating tensile structures would be using the topography tool. Unfortunately you would be hard pressed getting a twisted structure in Revit... It may be possible but there would be no easy way to go about it...

Create the 'tensile Membrane structure' using the 'Blend' tool in solid geometry. After you complete the top and base sketches, the Vertex connect command becomes enabled on the sketch Design Bar. By editing vertex connections, you control the amount of twist in the blend. You can edit vertex connections in plan or 3D views.

Hi, Thanks for your advices
I have tried to create by using create in place> blend techiques and I believe it is much more easier to create a solid mess of membrane effects for the umbralla profile.
However, I find that it is difficult to create seamless effects by using vertex> twist (unless there are some other steps that I missed out) and it is also unable us to edit the profile of the top and base shape and those shapes will remain flat in respect to the plane.
Perhaps to create complex types of membrane structures, it is better to create from some other modelling software or ACAD and import them back to Revit.

doing it with Solid > Blend

Here is a third try
showing that you can use some form of dubbel curves
You have to use a straight line then Blending Top and Bottom
That is a problem
A fourth way could be to use a massive block with Extrude
and then use six Voids to sculpture the block...

perhaps it is possible to have more than five Recent Forum Topics on the Home-side The Start-sdie because if there is a lot of discussions in the Forums the members will miss all the replies
Or make a chronological list of Subjects and Replies in all Forums
That is a great idea I think
Not only chronological list in each Forum
but a common one
Just some more programming for You!!!

I had a fourth try
with Modelling > Create
First I made a Extrude to have something to Pick a Plane from
That Extrude I will delete before I finish the family
But before deleting it I used it ffor doing a Solid Blend - as before - doing one half of a tensile structure.
And then Void Sweep with a curved path and a curved profile
to give the upper side of of the Solid Blends with its straight extrusion Path
a curved upper surface in both directions
Then I used Void Sweep to do the same thing - cut a bit away - from the Solid Blends underside.
OK! That was not so easy trying to make just that form I wanted
So you have to give it a little more time of experimenting....
I had also to use Void Extrude to cut away the worst pieces of my experimenting.

Here is two views trying to show
the curved upperside
The underside is not so nice needs a little more experimenting but it is also curved
And the other view more from the top
shows the resulting curved outer sides of the Solid Blend

Saw you tryouts & gallery & they are great. Those are exactly what I am looking for.
papurajx, thanks again because your initial idea can really work!! Properly it is my problems by not putting in greater imaginations and creativity over the revit tools. HaHa

Doing it in 3D Studio is the right way!!!
Here an image in the upper part showing how to do it in 3D Studio
and then exporting it as .dwg
and then File > Import in Revit and just Render
which is showed by the two pictures below.
Taking a look on what you can do in 3DS - there are several ways in 3DS but this is one possible way.
I choosed Create then Nurbs Surfaces and then CV Surface and made in the Top View.
Next step:
I choosed Modify and selected the surface and Surface CV and one point .
I selected two opposite points on the countour and in the Left view moved them upwards
The two new point and moved them downwards. That is all then export to .dwg.
Then importing in Revit choose Manually place so you can get the tensile structure on the right height..

I see, by doing the membrane in 3D Max, it will eliminate the obvious joint "mirror" line and enable to produce more complex shapes.
The only problem is I am still very new in Revit and knew almost nothing on 3D max. This means more hard work if I have to learn another modelling/ rendering software!
Prehaps we can skip the 3D Max and start of straight from ACAD? what are the tips if we are to start of from and ACAD and import the dwg to revit & its shortcomings compare to working from 3D Max.

ACAD I hate!!!
It is stupid as far as I know. And I know it for its 2D "support"...
OK! I know a little bit 3D in ACAD too - but I think there is other members knowing so much better.
And as far as I know there are no NURBS in ACAD
and for sure there will never be
because Autodesk want to have them only in 3DS....
A little programming and you could have NURBS in REVIT too,
but there is someone saying NO NURBS.... That is what I think
NURBS are good for doing smooth things easy.
So NURBS is the nice thing then doing tensile membrane structures
So my advice - do it in 3DStudio
All you have to do in 3DS to make the tensile structure is only two simple things - 2 things!!!!
as the image shows you
First with CREATE make a CV SURFACE
Second with MODIFY move opposite vertexes up and down
THAT IS ALL!!! And everything of it is shown to you on the image. OK! It is not video it is an image so you have to do a little experimenting in 3DS to get it right. But you will for sure make it...
Then export to a .dwg-file
and import it into REVIT
Perhaps someone knows a good way to do it in ACAD
but I do not want to try it in that awful program....
