I am trying to create a standard detail (in detail view) for import into other drawings.  The detail at this point is a section cut in a project.  I have tried exporting it to CAD and reimporting it into Revit but it keeps freezing up.  Is there another way to do this?

Revit 2013, AutoCAD 2010

As you have found out, model views are not portable between projects.  Your process is correct so I don't know what your problem is.  There is actually an add-on called "Freeze drawing" that performs the same function.  Where is your problem, on import into a drafting view?

Did you open the CAD and look at it?

Before importing the CAD, you should clean the file up like you should on any import.

i have attended many trainings in revit, but still i have a doubt regarding floor finishing with tiles.

i would like to know, how i can put ceramic tiles in various sizes in a room, may be 2-3 different sizes of tiles comes together. or i may need to cut some patterns on the floor that is filled with marbles, like water jet cut designs.

i know how to add material but i am confused to make it tiles and other designs.

can anybody help

Yeah, it's when I try to import the CAD into Revit.  I tried cleaning up the file.  I even exploded all the groups in case that was making the file to big, and got rid of the text because I can always add that back in later.  I haven't tried OVERKILL so I'll try that next.    It gets to 42% really fast and then stops.  I got it to 75 % once but then it dropped way back down the next time I tried.

Zakazai - I think you made a mistake.  You need to go to the Technical Support forum and ask your question from there.  That way you'll get more answers.  You replied to my question instead, only the people who stop to answer or look at this question will possibly see your question.

Just a question that I have been askign everyone lately is do you have all of the updates installed for our revit version and autocad?  This sometimes helps with quirky problems.  However you said you tried to keep file size down?  How big is the file that you are trying to import?  It is just lines so it shouldn't be big at all.

Where's freeze frame?

I doubt the problem is your file.  If it is so small, post it here and let us try.

You don't answer tefoe's question about updates.  That question would not have been asked if it wasn't important.  Give us how many updates you have installed.

If your not going to answer the questions that we ask you about YOUR problem then it is pointless to try and help you as we can't get anymore information from you.  DID YOU INSTALL ALL OF THE UPDATES???  Freeze Drawing is an ADD-IN that you need to download.

I have no idea about updates.  So I imagine no.  It's my work computer.  I've never had the problem before.  Maybe I'll take it home and try on my laptop.

How do you retrieve updates in case that is the problem?
