Hi there,
I have three questions considering troubles with Revit.
1) I want to change my hatch pattern for concrete walls. I want to have 2 hatch patterns combined. For this type it is the Concrete fill patern combined with the diagonal up pattern. Does anybody knows how to manage that?
2) I am having trouble joining my walls, for example a concrete wall with concrete fill patern and a basic generic wall with solid fill patern. On the corner of the wall i want a concrete wall for the structure and the rest of the wall can be a generic basic wall. but if i put it on his place it automatically attaches the 2 generic basic walls together and fill the total wall with the solid fill patern. I will attach a picture.
3) Is it possible to make a window in Revit that automatically changes when i change the size of the gap in the wall. I Leave on all sides 20 mm space free between the window and the wall, this is for the plaster on the walls that has to be put on the walls at the work. But because it isn't attached to the wall the window doesn't change when i change the width en height of the gap in the wall...
Hope somebody can help me!
Thank you,
Hugo

2. Use the disallow join command to keep your walls separate.
3. I don't understand why you would do it like this. So for every windown in your project you make a wall opening in the actual wall? This is good practice and seems like it would be very time consuming when a window will cut a wall for you. Just add to your window family so that it will cut an extra 20mm out of your wall when you place it.

1. You can not combine hatch patterns for a material. The pattern has to be one file.
2. Is this a coarse fill pattern? Coarse fill patterns have nothing to do with material, it is the whole wall. If the view is medium or fine, then the two walls will have patterns associated with their materials and if the materials are not the same, then the fill pattern will NOT join and there will be a line.

Yes i already made a family from the window but i get the same problem. Still the window doesn't change automatically if i change the width or the height from the opening in the wall. It just stays on the same place where i made the window. If i attach the window to the wall i don't have the problem. But i need the 20 mm on all sides for the floor plans and elevations so they can see there still has to be a plaster on the wall.

You have it backwards. Windows can not be controlled by the opening but the opening can be controlled, AND SHOULD BE, by the window. The opening can be whatever you set in the window family and the closure can also be set in the window family.

1) isn't it possible to crete your own hatch with a hatch creator or something so that i still can get the hatch pattern that i want. (Concrete & the diagonal up pattern like the left wall on the picture)
Thank you

You actually can have two hatch patterns for a material. It's a custom hatch pattern. I do it all the time, but you have to understand what you are doing. Hatch patterns are just text files that tell the computer what to draw. I modify the brick hatch pattern to include diagonal line and stipple to designate different brick colors or patters. You can do the same for the corcrete.

arusso5, You are using one hatch pattern - not two.
Ougo, Yes, you can define a hatch pattern that might look like two patterns but I have never seen one done. Good luck! Please let us know how it works for you.

WWHub, yes it is one hatch pattern (technically) but it is a combination of 2 hatch patterns, which was the original question. Can you use 2 hatch patterns in a wall... yes.

Ougo, try this pattern. You need to create a new material, I just duplicated the Cast in place concrete, create a new fill pattern with a new name and import this pattern as your cut fill pattern. I imported it at .25 import scale.
Let me know if this works for you.

No - sorry - it is not a combination - it is unique in definition and may just look like a combined pattern.
If you have ever created hatch patterns from scratch, you would understand the problems with doing this. Hatch patterns were initially defined for pen plotters. Pen down - move x,y pen up - move x,y. A process that is very hard to keep track of with non-linear patterns. This person has requested a pattern that combines linear with irregular patters. You might be able to define that from a 0,0 starting point defining one pattern then moving back to that 0,0 point and defining the irregular pattern. Both patterns would have to describe the same block of repeating space. Might work but I don't need to do it.

You might not have to do it, but Ougo does.
It does work, I've done it, and uploaded it for anyone who might want to use it. Don't use it if you don't want to.
I have done hatch patterns from scratch, I know how pen plotters work, and even with a pen plotter this was possible. You are still directing the pens to draw, irregular patterns or linear patterns.

OK - your pattern works with a very regular concrete. If that works for the poster then I'm sure he will be happy.
