in 2013 if i ever pick new host with model text it makes it backwards. it is the most annoying thing in this entire buggy program for me. I don't understand why it wants to do this. it is like it selects the other side of whatever face you place it on. help?

Not a buggy program. You are obviously picking the wrong face. It is very hard to pick a face on very thin objects.

that exit sign is an inch thick. it is not hard to zoom in and have my cursor on the front of it. I found a fix by making a new, 1/8" thick object in front of the body of the sign and hosting to that. I think it was confused because it only reversed the text when I tried to host it to the front of the sign, and it used to be on the back of the sign.
I have had this happen on many other faces in other projects, too. It is a malfunction with revit. I always have to make a new face with a new object to host to.

Upload the family so we can look at it.
I have sometimes had problems picking the correct face but not on a thick object. You picked the face from the 3D view -right? - not from an elevation view.

I didn't have time yesterday so I thought I would explain the process I used.
I open the family and from the 3D view, I set the work plane and picked the extrusion, then simply added the 3D text.

my problem does not lie with adding 3d text. it is with picking a new host. if you still have that file, if you click on your text you made and click pick new host it will not work right on any face other than it's origional one.

You don't do it the way you want to! You do it the way I showed you. You pick the work plane and then add your text in the family. This is not a face based family.
You could create a face based family with the text and place that on the face of your sign. BUT WHY????
From your HELP :

Model text is a work plane-based 3D element
^^^^^ NOTE: WORK PLANE BASED!

In the project, you can selecat a face to make that be your work plane .... but it is still a work plane.
In the family, you can pick a plane or a model element but that is not the same as a face.

I have had this "model text" backwards problem repeatedly. When I create a "generic model" family in Revit 2014 and then try to place model text on the face of the extruded element, it always comes in backward. I ususally fix the problem by rotating the text 180d or by setting the workplane to a named reference plane, instead of making the face of the extrusuion as the work plane, as would be easier, but this brings on the backward text problem.
Can anyon esle verify that this is a problem?
Any thoughts?

I can't get backwards model text except by doing something screwey like picking a workplane in 3D view then rotating the 3D view to the other side. So, please show us your process and if it is in a family - give us the family.
BTW - you don't say what Revit and what updates installed.

Apologies for not being thorough. I am using Revit Architecture 2014 Build 20131024_2115(x64)
Update Release 2. I have been able to reproduce this problem regularly so I beleived others would be able to as well.
The process is simply open a Generic Model template to create a generic model family, create an extrusion by drawing a rectangle with the sketching tool, complete the extrusion. Open in 3D view and set the workplane, by using the "Pick a plane " option, to the front face. Then create model text and attempt to place it on the front face. It comes in 180d reversed.
