Hi all, Love the site. Since I've found it, production at work has gone downhill.
Enough with the brown-nosing. I'm new to Revit so bear with me.
Suddenly I am unable to load families into one of my projects. At first I thought it was the family so I tried another, no luck. I have since downloaded several families from RevitCity, Seek, familit, SmartBim.
They all load without any errors. They do not appear anywhere. I did a save as... and attempted a purge just to see if I could see the files anywhere, no luck. Here is where it gets weird. When I attempt to load them again it asks if I want to over-write the existing file(s).
I'm working on another project at the same time and also downloaded families for it. The doors load into that without a problem but won't load into the other one. I'm thinking corrupt. Is there a tool or function I can run to verify this or does someone have an solutions/recommendations other than roll-back/restore.
Thanks all,
Ken

Could it be pure dumb luck that I downloaded 3 or 4 bad families in a row? Does that happen?
I should add these are all door families. Is there different doors for different wall-types?
I rebooted, re-applied SP2 (I don't know why, I never had a problem the first time) and started a new drawing.
They all 'load' but only 3 of the 7 appear and/or work.

when you load in families, they are not necessarily placed anywhere in your drawing. You must use the Home tab, Component, Place component select the object to be placed, and then place it.

All seven objects are doors but Component was one of the things I checked. I'll continue messing around, it's really the only way to learn IMHO.
I should also add that I can and have opened it as a family and attempted to load it from there with no luck. I'll continue playing. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free...
Thanks,
Ken

You may have loaded the family but you are not in the right place to know that. Look in your project browser family area and I bet it is there.

Ok, your right. All missing doors were found and can be viewed in the Project browser.... now what?
I can't do anything other than double click and view them in Type properties.
I've tried dragging them in to plan view, 3d. I'm at a loss.
Why on earth are most doors load in doors and others load into project browser?
Help.
Update: I can drag and drop doors that I can see in my doors palette drop down but not doors that load directly into the project browser.
Thinking maybe these entrance doors I downloaded only marry to curtain walls, I created a curtain wall and tried with no luck. Then again, I'm new to Revit so this may not make any sense.
I did try placing a standard door onto the curtain wall and received an error.

Same luck how?
The previous poster found out normal doors could be placed but he also had curtain wall doors that he loaded. Those can only be used to replace a curtain wall panel in a curtain wall. They are not typically placed from a plan view - normally from an elevation or section view that shows the curtain wall.

OK, this is my situation:
I tried loading a door, and it would load it would also appear under the doors families, but i can not place it. Also if i click on the doors button on the ribbion it would not appear in the properties palette, i have tried this several times but no family type would work, it seems like we can only load so many and it would quit on me. I have had this problem for two projects now.
to make a long story short: tthe families load but i can't see and place them using the ribbion button.
Help on this would be greatly appricated!!! thanks a lot!!!

OK.... Your problem is user error, not that you can only load so many doors. In order to help you, you need to tell us more.
- What is the name of the door family and where did you get it? It may not really be a door family even if it is called a door.
- You do know that you can not directly load from RevitCity into your project - correct? You have to download RevitCity families to your computer then load them.
- Are you working from a floor plan view?
- Are doors on in VG in the plan view you are working in?

The doors are for default revit liberary- but it also happens if i download.
The function does not view in any view, elevation, 3D, or PLan.
OK this is what i am doing:
go to insert tab
click on load family
select the file i want to load (like column or door)
and revit loads it
(for example if i have a door) Then i click on the doors command
"but here is the problem--- the previously used family will pop up, and if i check the drop down type options the loaded door family is not there; and revit never complained while loading; so i go and check the project browser, go to doors and there it is; but even if i click it, it will appear in properties but grayed out, and i can't place it."
This does not only happen with doors but also with any other family.
Thanks for the feedback- i do really appricate it.

When you start the doors command, the previously used family ALWAYS shows up in the properties. You must click on the down triangle to the right of the door picture to select a different family to use. A dropdown will open that shows you all the families and types you have available.
As an alternate to this process, you can find a door TYPE in the family portion of your project browser and right click on it to select place instance.
I think you may need to watch some some beginning tutorials.

I know this but the door would not show up in the properties palatte, but would show up in the project browser but if i click on it i can not do anything with it, can't place it, this is not only with the door but with all elements, it worked fine up till now, i do not know what happened. I have drawn a couple pertty complex projects, but for the last two i have had this problem, and i do not know why!!!!

This is not a Revit issue. Either it i a process issue or it is your system. First, test your system by starting a completely new project where you place a wall then laod this door and place that. If all works well then your process is probably OK. By the way, what is your view's discipline setting?
Possibly the file is corrupt so audit it.

IT would not go, what do you mean by this: By the way, what is your view's discipline setting?
