Hi There, Is there any way to make a metal roof finish with upstands? (Please see attached)

Yes you can, use the "Sloped Glazing" system, in the "forum" search for "Metal deck" and you will see lots of threads about this same question. http://www.revitcity.com/forums.php?action=viewthread&thread_id=13664

Hi Typhoon, I'm following your instructions that Ive taken from a former thread and says as follows: First: create a "Family Profile" with that shape only like this "_|-|_", you can add some parameters if you want to control the dimension of that profile, save the profile and load to the project, Second: in project create a slab BUT use the "Roof by footprint" define the slopes you want for your slab, if you don't want slope don't put "Define Slope", after create the slab pick them and go to the properties and in Top change to "Glazed Sloped", this is the secret, you gonna use this like in curtain wall, then in the same proper. don't forget to "duplicate" and give another name because in this way if you have anothers "Glazed sloped" in project don't gonna affect them, go to "grid 1 or 2" (you must check what grid you gonna need) and change to "Fixed distance" and give a value to that distance, ok, ok, the roof now is a Glazed slab divide by the lines like in curtain grids, Thirth: select by crossing that "slab", in menu bar go to "Filters", deselect all and select only the "PANELS" pick Ok, now only the panels are selected, go to properties, "Edit/New" and in "Profile" select the profile name you create in the "Family Profile" and "Vóila", it's done, if you want to change the space between them pick in the sloped glazed and change in the properties in the values of the Grids.... Everithing is fine till step Third where i can't find the filters and neither the "Edit/new" in properties and so on. Is another way to apply the created metal roof profile to this glazed sloped? G.

why not just make the pofile and do an inplace family and sweep it up or down the roof. that is what i do. Not really that hard. all these other ideas seem to be work arounds

quick and fast version. start an in place family, and select roof as your catagory and name it what you like. then select sweep(under the home tab) as your model type and then select sketch path. then you will need to goto a section view where you can see the edge of the sloped edge of the roof and select that as your work plane. then you will need to got a view where you are in plan and draw your path from ridge to eave,(extend past fascia a some distance so it drains into the gutter). once done you will need to select profile. this profile should be made from a profile family or you may be able to find some here on revit city. once selectred finish the model and you will have one sweep of a raised seem roof. them you copy or array that accross your roof. once that is complete you can select all of them and mirror them to the other side of the roof. if panels extend off the edge of the roof, use voids and cut the hangover parts off the model(hips get alittle tricky with your voids and cuts but once you get it it is really quite easy). the hip and ridgecaps are roof fascias. again you need to make the profile and load it into revit so you can pick them when you use the fascia tool(set your vertical profile offset so it sits above the seams). also you will have to have the section view cut before you start you panel model. because you can not cut a section while in the family editor. you just have to think ahead a little. I will avoid using in-place family to create metal standing roof if possible. My method is to use slope glazing to create the "rib" of the seam. See attached image, all of the roof there are done in the same method, you don't have to mess with any section view, it is much easier to manage it using slope glazing even if you have it edit it later, and you can cut opening thru the roof just as easy. The only down side is it will slow down the model, so I only recommend it if you have to show it in details Philip

Typhoon, Ive seen this roof on many posts, and many links to your personal work. I wish there was someone who would describe in more detail. Like the awesome post by bimman. everytime I ask this question people link to one of the dead ends with a picture or a snide comment about textures, or what BIM is supposed to do...or portuguese. Could you post maybe the panel library part, or part of the roof so people could look at it?

OMFG! I love this last post. Many many thanks for posting this beautiful model of a barrell roof. THank you for putting up your intellectual property. This is gonna help a lot of people I think. Also this should be like this weeks winning post. thanks again Typhoon.
