I'm having some problems with joining some walls and it's driving me insane. First off, I'm using Revit 2010. I had a main wall (CMU with Furring) that had a bunch of other walls connected to it. Yesterday, I was told to change it to a 6" Metal Stud wall which I did. All the walls that had been attached to it became detached (as shown in the attached image). My problem is that I can't for the life of me get the walls to attach. They just stay a few inches off the main wall. I've tried aligning the walls (by both wall face and core), dragging the end of the walls by the blue dot, deleting the walls and redrawing them, and altering the profile of the walls. Nothing seems to work. They had been joined to the CMU wall just fine. Any help would be appreciated a ton

Did you "dis-allow" the join of the walls in question? When you created the new wall did you watch the core definition boundry? Try dragging the wall away from the intersecting wall and then back to it and see what happens.

No, I didn't disallow joins. I'm not quite sure what you mean by watch the core definition boundry. If you mean did I adjust the wall thickness to account for the material changes then yes, I did. I've tried dragging the wall back and then reattaching it (It unfortunately doesn't work). I've even tried splitting the perpendicular walls, deleting the closer segment and attaching the remaining. Nothing will get these walls to join =/

Wall definitions need to be clearly understood. Each Boundry layer and core definition in the wall has a pecking order of 1-5. Walls join based on a core to core relationship with the other layers joining and cleaning up by the layer order within the wall definition. In other words, do you have a core in the new wall that would get swapped out for the old wall? Also, since walls are 3D objects, what is happening above? Does that same wall join up with another wall higher in the model? Develop a 3D view to take a look at the condition. Is the wall attached to any other object? If so try detaching and see what happens. Other than that, hard to tell without access to the Revit model.

Pull the wall far away from the wall you want it to attach to then bring it back together.

I decided to delete all the pertinant walls and start over fresh (this is killing me). I added the new main wall (6" metal stud and gyp both sides) and it gave me a warning that walls were overlapping (the new 6" metal stud wall and the old DELETED CMU wall) .... the only problem is that there is no other wall. It has a wall ID number, but no option to "show" the wall in the error box. any ideas lol

I would say that there is still a wall in your model the the intersecting walls were joined to and remain joined to. If you are just looking at a floor plan view you may not see the other wall due to cut plane/wall heights. That is why I suggest that you look at the affected are in a 3D view and see what is happening. I bet if you do this you will find the other wall. You can also go to the review warnings dialog and find the error. Both overlapping walls will be listed and you can select the offending wall and delete it. HTH

I've looked at it in 3d and in section, and there is no wall there. The error will allow me to select and delete the 6" metal stud wall, but NOT the CMU wall.

It says there is only 1 wall. However, when selecting that wall, it gives the warning that there are two overlapping walls.

Might there be an interference between design options, or between phases?

Are you using worksets? If so are they all on in your 3D view? How about phasing? If phases used, what is the phase filter set to for the view? View filters? Click, the reveal hidden elements light bulb. Anything hidden?

not sure exactly what you mean by design options. There are no phases in the project. Well I suppose the one phase, but that's it.

No worksets. No phases. View filters are being used, but I turned all of them off just in case, but nothing was hidden. I'll check with the bulb again, but I'm pretty sure I've done that. At this point everything I've done trying to sort this out is starting to run together lol
