How would I go about creating a revit pattern with the text in it. I'm still trying to resolve an issue with an AHJ. I think I've figured out a way to create a wall that shows the following Life Safety Wall Ratings. --4S--4S--4S = 4 hour smoke separation -X1-X1-X1-X1 = 1 hour fire separation -XX2-XX2-XX2-XX2 = 2 hour fire separation --OS--OS--OS = Smoke Compartment --1S--1S--1S = 1 hour smoke separation --2S--2S--2S = 2 hour smoke separation I just need to know how to create a revit pattern for each of the ratings. Any ideas? Tutorials? Thanks in advance ! Rick De Karske

When you talk about a pattern do you mean a linetype? If so check this blog. http://revitfamilies.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2007-01-01T00%3A00%3A00%2B02%3A00&updated-max=2008-01-01T00%3A00%3A00%2B02%3A00&max-results=16 Alternatively you could use different hatch patterns or colours for the different types of walls with a key.

HI Tim, Thanks for the reply but colors won't be accepted by the State Inspector. In AutoCAD Architecture it's possible to make a wall with the text in the middle of it. I think I've figured out a way to do that in Revit. The stud would carry the pattern with the text as I showed in my orginal post. I just need to find out how to turn that text into a pattern. Rick

I don't think that it's possible to do it in the wall, but you can create it with a repeating detail where you just need to click the wall and it can be applied.

Use AutoCad to create a detail, in this case type -1- get the detail into Revit and use it to create a REPEATING DETAIL in your drafting view. With a little effort and patience and a rotaion and small adjustments you will have your "linetype". I also did this to create a fence "linetype" in plan, you know, the traditional --X--X--X--X--X

J Flynn, Thanks... That sounds really easy to do. I'm pretty new to this REVIT stuff and definitely still learning. Rick

Why do this in CAD ???? If you want a repeating detail, do it with a REVIT Detail family NOT CAD! Fake your numbers with linework.

Well, you can create the subcomponents however you feel comfortable, then get them into a repeating detail. Scan an etch a sketch if you want. Then get the detail into Revit Then make a repeating detail. I personally don't get paid to draw numbers when there are 4.6 million fonts already in existance... drawing the number "one" feels foolish to me...

WWHub is correct why do it in cad when it is easier than revit. Look at the blog - it solves the problem perfectly. You don't need to draw the number. You can create a parameter to insert any letter or string and you can have any font that you want.

Sorry - I meant that it is easier in Revit.

Is it possible to put the video on YouTube or something? It's a pretty big file to download.
