Using RArch 2009 I am setting up exterior wall types for a prpoject. I have a ribbed metal panel wall that I am debating whether to set up with wall sweeps vs. no wall sweeps and then just using a repeating detail in 2D. I am leaning toward the repeating detail. ONe reaosn is because when I set a repearting sweep to denote the ribbed wall exterior, the structure and sub-strate part of the wall are independent of the sweep. Refer to the attached file Is there a way to have the profile track the height of the wall? Would several instances of a wall with a wall sweep weigh am model down? Thanks

Imbeding wall sweeps makes the file larger. Is it necessary? The wall sweep is not attached to the top of the wall. Is there a way to do this? On the flip side, is there a way to imbed a 2D profile into a wall type so that when its cut in section, the ribs would show? The obvious solution would be to draw a 2D repeating detail in every wall section instance. I am skirting around having to do this.

Typhoon, thanks for your help. I set up my wall by applying a sweep in the wall editor, like you described first. I would like to have the profile always cover the entire face of the wall. I may have walls of different heights and the height of the profile is always set. I suppose I could add a parameter linked to a linear array that defines the profile where the top and bottom / begining and end of the array are defined by the top and bottom of the wall. I'm not sure if this is possible.

Hi, you can create a parameter to control the "Lenght" of the profile BUT the problem is you only can control that distance if this is a "Type" parameter and not a "Instance", wish means you change the lenght of that type in the all model, what you can do is after insert the profile in the model is going to the project browser and duplicate the profile, change the lenght of them and assign diferents "Sweeps" to the walls, you you have few different wall, well it's easy, the problem is if you have a LOT of different wall with different sweeps(lenghts)...

I have lots of different wall heights and do not want to have to chase them around as things change. I have an idea. I will post if its of value. Thanks for your interest Typhoon!

See attached profile. It almost works, except... in order to attach a parameter to the array, the arrayed pieces have to be grouped. If they are grouped, they are not recognized as a profile. Also, the array only works with whole feet. Any thoughts on tweaking the profile? Am I missing anything?

Well, don't work because the groups, but you allways have the problem of the fixed distance, in this case, and like you have severals "Heights" of walls i use "Curtain Walls", see the image attached...

I am not sure I understand, but I attempted to resolve this by adding a parameter to the array that divides the "unconnected height" of the wall by the spacing of the profile.
