We are using Revit 2009 on Vista Machines with Intel Dual Core processors with 4GB of RAM. for whatever reason today, we have gotten fatal errors and crashing on a small model (3.6mb total size). when we are in a 3D view, with shading on, the model looks terrible, you cant distinguish elements, it looks choppy. when i switch to a hidden line, and try to select an object, it crashes. has anyone else had problems working thru Vista with Revit?

is your opengl hardware acceleration turned on? I would try turning it off, restarting revit, and see if you have the same issue.

Update your graphic card driver. When I installed '09 my system was crashing left and right. I updated my graphic card driver and '09 is yet to crash. Let me know if that works for you.

I think you both are correctly, turn of OPENGL in Revit-settings and update your graphic card drivers for Vista 64 Bits... you don't say what graphic card do you had...

the graphics card we are using is an nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS. the computers we are using are brand new builds, so the graphics card driver should not need to be updated. I also found some information here http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=70896 about graphics cards and Revit, so I will see if that helps.

Nvidia does update their drivers from time to time. You might want to check if their is a new release. It is always a good thing to be up to date to get the maximum performance out of your cards.

Well we updated out video card driver to the latest release, and tried using the OpenGL by turning it on and off, to no avail. all we had to click on the Viewcube, in any direction, and the graphics were corrected and the model was useable again. this seems to be a glitch in Revit, and is not computer hardware related. hopefully this will be corrected on a service pack release.

Good point. If this is a custom built computer are the chipset drivers installed? You would be amazed in the number of people who don't install chipset drivers for their motherboard. You should not be experiencing these glitches. I am on a similar system with no problems at all. Granted I had issues... and I figured it out. I wouldn't call it quits yet and call it a glitch.

The motherboard we are using is ACPI x86-based PC with an Intel Core Quad CPU 6600 @ 2.4Ghz. i checked and the drivers for the motherboard are up to date.

The BIOS has the most up to date driver already installed.

Have you gotten any reply from autodesk error report? They could be of help, you know. Errors come in different sources, in my case, it mostly come from me. Nice to have a previous copy before I did the last command. If there's no fix, I'll just avoid those last things before the crash. Always save and save always your milestones. Just a thought!

all motherboards are acpi x86 based. A few people are having problems with video cards and I'm thinking that either a new chipset or bios or something like that isn't cooperating yet. Why is it that no one on this board seems to use workstation cards? or is it that they never have problems with them? squeeky wheel syndrome?

Hi, a week ago i format my PC and install Vista 64Bits, beffore i install the programs i go to the Asus site and install the new driver "Chipset", "Lan" "Audio" for my motherboard because they have new drivers and it's recomended to actualise the chipset, but i don´t install Bios, so far so good, i don't have any problem with any program... See if there are new drivers to chipset for these motherboards...
