Here's what I want to do -- I want to show a concrete column and a foundation wall but also be able to see the rebar inside. I'm thinking of drawings for the building department (and also the construction crew) -- to show them that the rebar is properly placed inside a 24" concrete column and a foundation wall. This would apply only to 3D views.
I know how to make an element "hidden" -- what I'm asking about is I guess what you would call partial transparency -- like a cutaway drawing.
If this can't work, what is a standard way of showing rebar inside a foundation or column? -- I'm talking about other than sections and plans of course, I know how to do those. If there are any, links to typical drawings of these elements would be much appreciated.
While I'm on this subject, I'd suggest that a huge service to the Revit community (and indeed, the architectural community) would be for someone to post a "typical" small residential structure with all the drawings and details. With special attention to drawings that help you get through the permitting process.
A related question -- I have figured out how to place rebar in a column, but the only rebar shapes I can find have a hook at both ends. I can't find how to do an L-shape rebar with the hook in the pad at the base of the column and the rebar extending up into the column (to be poured separately). I need to draw rebar with a hook only at one end.
Thanks

So what you need to do is to open your 3d view and then go into the Visibility Graphics settings and then down at the bottom where it lists all the structural items you will want to override the transparency of the structural columns and foundations. I hope that helps.

On an individual basis, you can also right click on an item and choose Override Graphics by Element and change the surface transparency of that item.
