when I try to download an object from revit city it opens it up in revit 2015 and it says failed to open? how do i download it?

Save the file locally, open Revit then open the file from within Revit or load into your project.

Never start Revit by clicking on a Revit file.  Revit will always revert to the last Revit used and that may not be what you want.  Always start Revit first.
