revit 2012
swept blend, i have the two shapes i want to blend, i've drawn the path... what am i missing? i select path, select one shape, select second shape, i get this~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
shouldn't the two shapes connect? like in every other 3d modeling program?

yes they will connect. follow the instructions in your help exactly. The attached is a sweep blend method for doing streets, but it is the same for different profiles and they will connect up and you in some cases will be asked to connect certain features as the shape can roll or twist one way or the other.
