hi there, I'm really new to the whole revit thing, but I'm finding most of it pretty easy to use, until I hit a snag. I thought I knew how to make a dome for example, but every time I draw the shap of the revolution, and click finish sketch, it says can't create surface. I have no idea what this means. I've tried moving the shape away from any othe work planes to ensure it wasn't crossing structures, I've tried changing the shap in a mulitude of ways, In the end I tried to exactly replicate the dome structure in the tutorials section (without the occulous) and still no luck, always the same error. I'm using concrete as a material, and the revit building 9. Hope someone can help, it's really getting frustrating.

Hi, have you some screen shots about what are you trying to do? You have already a DOME surface created in revit, if you load to project that dome you can change them like do you want "FILE-LOAD FAMILY-METRIC (IMPERIAL) LIBRARY-MASS-M_dome.rfa"

Your shape has to be a closed area. In the case of a dome, this would be 1/2 of the shape (in section) which is rotated 180 degrees - not the whole shape. NOTE that it has to be a closed shape. Lines much be filleted to other lines at each end and lines may not cross.

thanks typhoon, that is actually quite helpful, didn't know there was one already made. I've actually just figured it out myself though! One of those things staring you right in the face that you don't see until you try and think what would someone else do. I was drawing on both sides of the axis, not just the one and tring to revolve it.

See what WWHub told you, if you try to create one and not import, you must follow the steps of WWhub. The shape must be closed...
