Hi, I am quite a noob with Revit but it's going ok... I don't seem to figure out how to find the upper invisible lines in my plans...the following image should make it clear. So the problem is that I don't see the lines above the plan that are cantilevered. I tried to look in the view properties but alas. And I don't know a search term for this in the help file! Plz have a look at the attached file...

Hi, in plan view go to VP and in "View Range - edit" you can change The "Top, Bottom and Cut Plane", i think that's what do you want or need.

Thanks for the quick reply! Good forum! OK here is a basic Revit file with a cantilevered roof. on Level 1 I cannot see any reference to the cantilevered roof. So, I would like to have a roof view but in plan and hashed...do you understand? It's difficult to explain...But I think the picture and this file will make it more clear. I played with the view settings...but it didn't work out. If you can do it with the view settings, plz post the file back... THANKS

We expect in Revit that all elements that are drawn above the cut-plane should project a hidden line on the plan that we are looking on, which is the ideal way to look at things. Roof, canopy, cantilever floors/slabs. header, drop beamza should cast a hidden line projection below. This is not true in Revit. Sometimes you can do underlays, but most of the time you have to trace it by yourself using a detail line.

Not actually a problem. We always do have to draw those hidden/overhead lines with our 2d/3d software before. Revit is open to wishlists, and one of these days, these can be a reality. For now, discover things as work arounds.

No "Horicolonoma", it's not a problem, "MHAMS" has right, Revit is not a 2D program, it's a "BIM", but also it's a "2D" drafter program, (more Amator - depend the practicis), my opinion is if a have this kind of issues i think it's better and quick to do in AUTOCAD, i'm not so Radical to defend Revit with my "life", if i can do this much faster in CAd then Revit i do it in CAD, because TIME iS MONEY, so... I think we just have to be intelligence to decide what is the best solution to us... if i spend less time to do this in CAD to finish my work and solve the problem to client, i decide to take the obvious.... I'm no't like a "Fundamentalist..."
