I have two queries regarding material take off for stairs:

Our usual method for calculating how much carpet we need for the stairs: we take the area of the stairs in plan view, and then add 3.5m for the risers.

This calculation seems very unrealistic when I actually apply ‘carpet’ material to the stairs.

If I take the area of the spiral stair in plan, 5.05msq, and add the 3.5m I get 8.55, however, when I apply the material it calculates it at 19msq, this is a HUGE discrepancy.

What am I doing wrong?

My treads and risers are 10mm, the monolithic stairs wouldn’t allow a tread and riser at 10 mm without a nosing thickness of 14 or more. Is there a way to apply the material to the stair without a nosing?
