This is the first time I have worked with revit. Fore the past couple of weeks there was someone in the office who has been updating the central model every friday. He is out of office and I received the update model from the architecht but I am worried that I will make a mistake in updating it. 

Can anyone assist me in the updating process??

If it is truely a central model, then just open it and allow revit to create a loacl model which you save locally.  Then simply update the central by doing a save to central.
