I cannot seem to download and open alot of the stuff that is posted on this site, because I am using Revit 2013 maybe? A message comes up, "cannot open because it was saved in a version of Revit prior to 8.1.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a program that will open these files and upgrade them to a later version?

You can open any earlier version of Revit families or projects and they will upgrade/convert to the release you are in.
But ... you said prior to 8.1. What objects are you trying to use. Maybe something very - very early on our site has a problem and if so, we need to know what.

I tried opening "exit sign symbol". I tried both dragging, and also opening from within Revit. This happens quite often. Ive used other versions of Revit and never had this problem. Last version I used was Revit 2011 and Revit 2012 full version. I am now using Revit LT 2013.
Here is a screen shot of the objects i downloaded and the message when i tried to open:

Opens fine for me in 2013. Maybe the LT version has restrictions.

Apparently this is a restriction in 2013 LT. I read in a discussion that Autodesk was trying to fix this in a service pack. Do you have the service packs installed? If not do that and see if they have fixed the problem.
