i have a floor that is basically concrete on metal deck. when i view it in elevation/section i see the corrugation of the deck. when i view it in 3d the floor is a just a slab with no detail of the metal deck. i have changed the detail to fine and messed with the discipline setting and the visual style but none of these adjustments are affecting how the floor appears. what am i doing wrong?

(i noticed something similar the other day when i copied a wall from one project to another project; in the original the detail in the 3d view was fine, but in the new project there was no detail just a generic wall)

Your issues are not related. Steel deck does not show up in 3D. Period, end of story.

Your second problem may be related to opposing 'materials' from one project to the next.

If you copy and paste a wall from one project to the next it will not convert the wall from one wall type to another wall type ie: 'generic wall' type. Something you're not telling us there. What you may mean is it appears to be 'generic' (grey with not pattern etc)  but a 'generic wall type' is an actuall wall type. I suspect it's one material over writing another becasue they have the same name but different makeup. Not sure, need more details.
