I have cut a detail which contains a concrete wall and a light gage wall. We have set up view templates to apply for a generic wall section. This is the first detail I have cut that contains two different types of walls. When I apply the view template, both walls linetypes become the same along with other properties (i.e. color, hatch). We also assign color to our elements (i guess so used to seeing color in CAD). I can't seem to figure a way to make the two walls appear differently without actually overriding graphics in view (which I would like to avoid, too many extra steps and more things to remember). I tried creating a subcategory under walls called Concrete Walls and Light Gage Walls and gave the subcategories properties i wanted to see (linetype, lineweight, color). I assigned the material of the subcategories to that of the walls I have in my model thinking they would associate with each other. This didnt work either. It seems the view template only goes by the main object style Category Settings of "Walls". If I change color, lineweight, etc. under the main category of walls it changes in the view when applying the view template, however, it changes both walls!!! Is there a way to distinguish between the two so my light gage wall can look different than my concrete wall when i cut a section in plan. I don't want to have to override graphics in view every time. Sorry for the long post and I hope this is clear.

Adjust the display of walls in the element properties, such as fill pattern and colour. Revit displays the way it prints. In cad we used different colour lines to represent different things, such as pen thickness, but there is no reason for this in Revit, as a the elements are defined by what they are, not what they look like.
