Long have I been told that it can't be done. I have figured out how to do it. I figured out how to do it! The first thing you will want to do is edit the tag you are using for the doors and windows. We use the same tag for both (the Default Window Tag ). But we need to modify this. So what you do is you change the parameter of the label by adding a new one. Click on the label, edit the family, add new parameter (we called ours D/W TAG), add it to the label and remove the other one that is there by default (I think it may have been 'Mark' previously), now deselect the label. Edit the Family properties of the file itself, add new family type (I named ours door/window tag), add new parameter (Name: door/window tag, Discipline: Common, Type of Parameter: Number) and make it an instance under the 'text' Group. With that done, choose your doors and windows you want to schedule. What you will want to do now is create a shared family group (I labeled ours Door Schedule Items). Then add parameters under that group. Here is a list of what I have added. D/W TAG Door/Window Finish Door/Window Finish Letter Door/Window Frame Door/Window Frame Letter Door/Window Frame Finish Door/Window Frame Finish Letter Door/Window Type Door/Window Type Letter Door/Window Width Door/Window Height Elevation Type You add these to both your doors and windows and your schedule. As your number of doors and windows grow, so will your schedule populate, giving each their own number. Here is an example of ours:

Hi All,
It is a very old post.
I like to have some inputs for what I'm doing now.
Our office assigns unique numbers for each door, with oval door tag; and window with diamond window tag, then create a door/window schedule.
For example, in Room 101, three doors are labeled 101, 102 and 103; four windows 101A, 101B, 101C, and 101D.
1. I created two types of door tags, one oval, and another diamond.
2. I created all window families by using the door template.
3. I placed "doors" with oval door tags first; then "windows", which are doors also, with diamond tags. After the first window placement, I switched the tag from oval to diamond, and place all subsequent windows.
4. All fields in the door schedule are following our office standard, with two hidden fields "Door" and "Window" for sorting.
It works so far, any inputs are welcome.
Best regards,

ran into same issue. I edited the window family (which i downloaded a HM frame window from revitcity) and made it a door type. The tags are the same as doors and shows up on schedule.
